The Minister of Foreign Affairs is organizing, between 27 and 29 August 2014, the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy, a traditional event dedicated to the Romanian diplomatic and consular corps.
Members of the Romanian Government and Parliament, representatives of the Presidential Administration, heads of Romanian diplomatic missions, consuls-general, directors of Romanian cultural institutes, representatives of the foreign Diplomatic Corps accredited to Bucharest, representatives of the civil society, of the academic community and of the business community, and mass-media representatives will take part in the official opening.
The official opening of the Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy will be held on Wednesday, 27 August 2014, starting from 17.00 p.m., in the presence of the Romanian Prime-Minister, Victor Ponta, the President of the Senate, Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, and the President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea, the host of the event being the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Titus Corlățean.
In this year's edition of the Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy, the special guests of the Minister of Foreign Affairs are: Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission, Natalia Gherman, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister, and Maia Panjikidze, Georgia's Foreign Minister.
During the three days of the meeting, the participants will discuss the Romanian diplomacy's role and position in the context of recent regional and international progress. The representatives of Romanian diplomacy will discuss on topics such as: security in the region, the European journey of the Eastern partnership states (the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine), the issue of regional, economic and energy development, and evolution within the European Union.
"This year we have exceptional international guests: Catherine Ashton, Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission, along with her counterparts from the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, member states of the Eastern partnership, which Romania is among the first to support in their European journey. The fact that the foreign affairs ministers of these countries are here at the AMRD is a sign both of the importance that Romania gives to this region and of the acknowledgement of the permanent and concrete support that we have given to these states, and that resulted in the successful stage of signing the association and free trade Agreements.
The Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy is also an occasion to bring together all representatives of the Romanian diplomatic corps, to debate upon current important topics and missions in international relations, topics that have a foreign policy component, but also a national and international security component.
The meeting also represents a thorough assessment of our activity, an evaluation of the Romanian diplomacy's material and human resources, considering the ever brisker events that have been taking place on international level, both regionally and globally", stated Foreign Affairs Minister, Titus Corlățean.
Only the accredited media representatives have access to this event. The press program may be modified, in which case the changes will be communicated in due time.
Accredited media representatives will have access to the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy only upon producing a badge. The badge can be taken between 16.00 p.m. and 17.00 p.m. on Wednesday, 27 August, from the Accreditation Office (Marriott Hotel, ground floor).
In order to receive a badge, media representatives must provide a press identification card and an identification paper. Media representatives who will also be present at the 28 August meetings are kindly asked to bring the access badge.
